Scholarship Foundation

Tidewater Builders Association Scholarship Foundation was established to award college scholarships to local high school seniors. Since 1965, the scholarship foundation has awarded close to $1.8 million to hundreds of area students. Students do not have to major in the building trades, and awards are distributed over a four-year period

In 2019, six $5,000 scholarships were awarded. The recipients were selected by a committee of builders, educators, and local business members. Awards are based on academic success, financial need, and community involvement.

Awards were also presented to four high school students and two instructors in the Young Designers' Scholarship Competition. The application deadline for 2020 scholarships has passed.  Recipients will be selected and notified in late April.

2019 Scholarship House

CVBIA members support scholarships through a special house

Sam Cohen of Joey Corp., along with Kempsville Building Materials/Carter Lumber, is the most recent builder to continue TBA's rich tradition of building a Scholarship House to help area students attend college.

Named The Grayton Downes Scholarship House, the home was on display during  the 2019 Homearama and highlights TBA members' commitment to giving back to the community through its annual scholarship program. Proceeds from the home’s sale are donated to the foundation.
